"This is tight and focused with blackberries, chocolate, and black tea. Full-bodied, round and juicy. Slightly bitter at the end. A lovely wine now. Drink or hold.” - James Suckling, May 2018
Rich aromas of caramel and nutmeg flood the senses, followed by notes of cedar and clove. The bright acidity and smooth, velvety tannins create a perfect balance on the palate with opulent flavors of cherry flambé and hazelnut mocha. This Cabernet can be enjoyed today; however, it will richly reward those willing to age it for at least 2 to 5 years with the potential to age beautifully for 10 to 15 years.
We crafted this wine from some of our finest Cabernet Sauvignon blocks, using primarily our vineyards in Calistoga. Located at the northern end of the Napa Valley, these vineyards experience warm days with a cool snap each evening thanks to the breezes coming over the hills from Knight’s Valley. Perfect for this variety, these conditions encourage a lush, ripe character and fragrant aromas to develop in the grapes.
2014 was a beautiful vintage for the Napa Valley along the lines of the recent outstanding vintages of 2012 and 2013. Although California’s continued drought brought another dry winter, the growing season started with a warm, dry spring and relatively early bud break. Summer temperatures remained mild and consistent with even, warm temperatures throughout. The overall quality and expressive fruit characteristics make this an outstanding vintage.
Our Reserve Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon is the culmination of our finest grapes combined with meticulous winemaking and extensive barrel aging. “The goal with this wine is to create an exquisite balance between fruit expression, rich mouthfeel and an elegant oak impact,” says Winemaker Harry Hansen.
