Italian in origin, Sangiovese has found a footing in California, where the warm sun can coax forward its ripe fruit flavors and soften any harsh tannins. A majority of our fruit comes from Solari Vineyard, located at the northern tip of the Napa Valley. Stunningly beautiful and serene, this dry-farmed vineyard is diligently managed by Bruno Solari, who carefully tends the vines, controlling yields and producing stellar fruit year after year. The warm days and cool nights of this region allow the fruit to ripen to full maturity, producing vibrant, well-balanced fruit.
Our Sangiovese gives you a glimpse of two worlds in one glass: an expressive, ancient varietal character combined with the influence of New World practices. The grapes were hand harvested at the peak of maturity, then placed in a cold soak to gently extract subtle nuances of aromas and flavors. During fermentation, we utilized rotary fermentors for a majority of the wine, which reduced its exposure to oxygen and preserved the fruit expression. The wine was aged for 18 months in a combination of oak barrels, lending structure, roundness and hint of barrel spices.
