Sterling Vineyards wines express true varietal character—that set of aromas and flavors that grapes develop when grown in the terroir that suits them best. We strive to highlight each wine’s unique personality and deliver the quality that has delighted wine lovers for decades. In 1964, we became landowners of our first vineyards in Calistoga. This blend is a tribute to all of the great vineyards we now work with in Napa Valley, from the Carneros District in the south to the northern reaches of Calistoga.

Vineyard Notes

We sourced our grapes from select vineyards throughout Napa Valley, building complexity and layers from multiple sites. We placed a special emphasis on cooler climate sub-AVAs, such as Yountville and Oak Knoll, and balanced it with fruit from the warmer Calistoga AVA. The cooler vineyards offer a bright clarity of fruit, with vibrant notes of rhubarb and licorice that persist through the palate. Calistoga provides complementary dark black fruits and rich, jammy character.

Winemaking

Ripe black currant, dark plum, baker’s chocolate and violet aromas define this intriguing, ageworthy blend of classic red grape varieties. A limitedproduction wine, the 2013 Winemaker’s Select Red is a unique blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a small percentage of Petit Sirah. Each grape variety contributes layers of flavors and aromas that live together in perfect harmony in this wonderfully complex wine. This wine exhibits the balance and structure to mature beautifully for the next decade. Decanting for an hour or two is recommended if drinking in the short-term. Enjoy this full-bodied wine with lamb, beef and other rich dishes.
