We sourced our grapes from select vineyards throughout Napa Valley, building complexity and layers from multiple sites. We placed a special emphasis on cooler climate sub-AVAs, such as Yountville and Oak Knoll, and balanced it with fruit from the warmer Calistoga AVA. The cooler vineyards offer a bright clarity of fruit, with vibrant notes of rhubarb and licorice that persist through the palate. Calistoga provides complementary dark black fruits and rich, jammy character.
A low-yielding, cool vintage, the 2011 growing season was fairly moderate and harvest dates were extended for long ripening. Overall, it produced slightly lower sugars, higher acids and vibrant varietal flavors in the wine.
Small-berried Cabernet Sauvignon provides the wine’s core, giving it depth of dark fruit character and structure. Merlot from the Yountville AVA in the heart of the Napa Valley adds bright red plum notes and heightened aromas. And finally, the fusion of Petite Verdot, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, and Syrah brushes the wine with hints of violet and spice.
