Vintage 2011
Wine Type Red
Varietal Syrah
Region Napa Valley
Winemaker Harry Hansen
A low-yielding, cool vintage, the 2011 growing season was fairly moderate and harvest dates were extended for long ripening. Overall, it produced slightly lower sugars, higher acids and vibrant varietal flavors in the wine.

Tasting Notes

Our Syrah opens with dark, inky-purple depths that bloom with blackberry and blueberry aromas, interwoven with enticing white pepper and roasted meat elements. The dense, deep fruit persists through the palate with full-bodied, robust tannins and well-integrated spice notes that linger on the finish. Full of rustic charm and subtle graces, our Syrah is a perfect companion to Lamb Shanks!

Winemaking Notes

For our Cellar Club Syrah, we wanted to showcase the varietal’s subtle flavors in a deep and dark, yet gentle, wine. We find the allure of Syrah lies in the meaty-spicy element that weaves through the dark fruit core. To preserve these characteristics, we hand harvested the fruit at the peak of maturity. This was followed by a pre-fermentation cold soak for gentle extraction of delicate varietal nuances. Because Syrah is inherently spicy with good tannin structure, the majority of the oak used was neutral thereby placing the focus on the fruit.
